HIS & HERS: a voyage through the Middle Age Crazies

23 - the Relationship------------------------------------------
HIS... THE WINE

the vintners speak lovingly
of the compatible enzyme
in a fine table burgundy
and how it works
with candlelight and crystal
to keep an evening gracious

and
then there are those
two-dollar-a-gallon
straight-from-the-bottle
rotgut red times
when I'm never sure
who's talking
you or the wine

and it's not that I minded
sorting through all the junk
you dumped
I probably deserved it
but in that last minute
if I hadn't caught your coat
do you think
you really would have jumped?

24-------------------------------------------------------------------
HERS... I CAN DANCE

(Dedicated to the critical parent tapes
that keep me like Hansel and Gretal
caged, waiting)

I awake Anne Sextons' child
Suicide's daughter
A cult with no hands
Cut off at the wrist
Without meaningful work
A displaced person, Anne Frank
A Jew out of time
I would be Jane Eyre, the orphan
But I
Am
My
Own
Punishing
Parent

Dizzy green nausea
Thick grey drips
Going round
I like with the sun
Hidden under covers
No longer able to fix
My eyes spin in the browns
I have no center
My arms and legs
Spastic, jump on their own
I dance out of control
Watch me mama
Down here
In the pit with the snakes
Watch me rock -- Watch me roll
