HIS & HERS: a voyage through the Middle Age Crazies

25 - the Relationship------------------------------------------
HIS... WAITING

I have in my life
stepped out on my wife
and tried waiting
in a white room
for a young working woman
to bring me color
through a white door

it has been a long morning
with this blank piece of paper
and quiet guitar
the sun came crawling on the floor
and I watched it with no more on my mind
than you
and this slow unwinding
lonely time

you will come soon for lunch
I will hear your sound in the hall
your hand on the latch
and then time will fly
till you're off to work again
and I am left alone again
washing the afternoon walls
with my eyes

my god
to be a housewife waiting
always waiting
and you can't create while waiting
you can only wait

26-------------------------------------------------------------------
HERS... WAITING

And I have waited
I waited to grow up -- use lipstick,
To be kissed, to wear a bra, for my
Pince to come, to vote.
I waited for some man
To ask me to marry him
And have children,
I waited in lines for stamps
And groceries
In lobbies for movies
In parked cars for children at lessons
For airplanes to come bringing you in
For airplanes to go taking you out
I waited for the roast to get done,
The jello to set, the light to turn green,
Waiting to move on,
To go away on vacations
And to go back home
The children grew up
And my hair is turning grey

And I have waited
For you to ask me to speak for myself
Hey! It's my turn.
I will speak for myself
