HIS & HERS: a voyage through the Middle Age Crazies

37 - Beyond Divorce-------------------- -------------------------
HIS... NO STRINGS
kites are one thing
but I have noticed that the birds
have no strings
and whether it is true or not
doesn't matter
but I have looked upon you
as a wounded sparrow
to be lifted
and cupped in my hand
careful
not to touch your broken wing

and there were times
when you pecked me viciously
over things I could not fathom
but then god knows
what a sorry sight
I made
bending over you
in such concerned pity
so
I left the cage open
hoping you'd be off

and suddenly
it comes to my attention
that the front door
has been carefully left ajar

I notice this
as the morning sun
is pouring across the floor
and if either of us should fly
without a song
it will all have been for nothing
38-------------------------------------------------------------------
HERS... AGAIN
And he stood solid
Letting the sharp
Word edges bounce off and
Fall away
Until we could come together
Again and touch
